Back to the Basics

Christians, in a world where everyone is offended and repulsed by your views on life, be the bigger person and refuse to engage in such conversations. Stand up for what you believe in and make no excuses about it, but be sure that you come from a place of love, and not a place of bitterness and stubbornness. Don't be that person that feels the need to always get in the last word (believe me, I am guilty too). I read this statement a while back and it spoke volumes to me. "Have the maturity to know sometimes silence is more powerful than having the last word." - Thema Davis

During the recent, tragic events in Orlando, FL, I find that some "Christians" are going to extremes to display their beliefs. Some really want to get their points across and are doing so in such cruel and bitter ways, that it has placed a stigma on religion, especially Christianity. So much so that we have tainted the minds of others on what Christians are all about. I'm sure that non believers are thinking, "If that is what a Christian is all about, then I want no part of it!" To those people I say this: Love is patient and kind; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:11 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Social media has become such a platform for political and religious beliefs that I often times find myself so disappointed in humanity in general. Don't you understand that this is a plot? The devil is intrigued by our behaviors and the way in which we are treating one another. He relishes in our dismay, and takes delight in our sorrows. Don't take part in his happiness!!

Some have become so immune to violent, disturbing, graphic scenes and stories that I often times wonder if people actually realize that we are NOT living in a movie or a video. Real people who have families and children and moms and dads and friends are being massacred: Christians and Non-Christains. REAL PEOPLE!!! They are being killed because of hatred and anger. Some are even being killed because they are Christians. Do you understand that you can't reset and start over again? People are dying. Every. Single. Day! Instead of making this a political rant or a religious view, take time to pray for these families and for the people who are committing these acts. We need God in America, and no political figure or person of power will ever change that. We need to put down our phones and get back to the basics. God, family and love.

The following words were taken from a song entitled "Basics of Life" and these lyrics are what resonate loudly in my head:

We've turned the page, for a new day has dawned. We've re-arranged what is right and what's wrong. Somehow we've drifted so far from the truth that we can't get back home. Where are the virtues that once gave us light? Where are the morals that governed our lives? Someday we all will awake and look back, just to find what we've lost. We need to get back to the basics of life. A heart that is pure and a love that is blind. A faith that is fervently grounded in Christ, the hope that endures for all times. These are the basics, we need to get back to the basics of life.

Listen to me!!! People need the Lord, not your opinions or your views of life in general. Love them, pray for them, share the story of Jesus with them. What they do from there on out is up to them, but you continue to do what God has asked of you. He wants you / us to share his story. How can others come to know Christ when you yourself are not displaying Christian values. Pray before you post! I'm going to say this again... PRAY BEFORE YOU POST! We need to turn our eyes towards Jesus, not the things of this world.

My hope is that someone reading this will come to know God.

Jesus Christ is the answer! He came to this world and lived a sinless life. Died on the cross for our sins (yes, we are all sinners!) and did this so that we may have everlasting life. Not here on this earth, but in Heaven. In order for us to have everlasting life, we must accept that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Also, believe that he is the Son of God and that he came to this world to deliver us from evil. Confess your sins to Him and ask Him to forgive you for your shortcomings.

The Lord is a forgiving God and He wants you to come to Him. He will not forsake you. He will love you no matter what you have done. His stories and commandments can be found in the Bible. The Bible gives us instructions for life, and it tells us about the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Shows us the way, the truth and the light. If you have questions about life in general, look to the Bible for help or seek out a Christian pastor that can guide you. Will becoming a Christian keep you from danger, sadness, trials? NO. But becoming a Christian will allow you to lean on someone who is much greater and stronger than any army. He will provide you with a peace that no one can ever gift you. In times of trouble and heartache, He will be there. You must open your heart to his love, mercy and grace. Jesus is here, He is always here, we just need to prepare ourselves for Him, and understand that His plan is greater than ours.

For God so loved the world, that He gave is ONLY begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Once you become a Christian, your work IS NOT over. God asks that we bare fruit. Fruit? What do I mean by fruit? I'm talking about fruit of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Some of you may have already accepted God in to your life, but that doesn't mean that your work is done. If you are like me, it is a constant struggle to act upon what God would have me do rather than allow my sinful ways to take control. We were born as sinners, but God wants us to walk with Him. To take the path less traveled. God wants us to bare fruit. Fruit of the Spirit. We will always be a work in progress. But remember, we must continue our work for the Lord, because the harvest comes every year. In a world where God is needed the most, let's work together to produce these fruits. And God said, For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

These are the basics, we need to get back to the basics of life.

God Bless America and God Bless YOU!
